On 8th October 2005, severe earthquake measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale resulted in collapse of buildings and killing thousand, leaving millions homeless.

The catastrophe resulted in colossal damage, with aspirations and dreams of so many, buried forever under the rubble of innumerous destroyed homes.

With whole generation wiped out, life will never be the same again for us.  Promptly responding to this national emergency, Abbottonians Medical Association, a registered NGO, established a Disaster Management Center [DMC] through the active support of Direct Relief International USA, Association of Pakistani Physicians of North America USA, Association of Pakistani Physicians of New England USA, Disaster Relief by Irish & Pakistanis [DRIP] Ireland, IslamiCity.com USA, Islamic School of Miami USA, Ayub Medical Institution and Philanthropists from all over the country and abroad.

The objective of the DMC was to coordinate Rescue, Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction activities.The projects running at DMC are: 

Health Programs

  • Free Medical Camps and regular OPD.
  • Training in Basic Life Support [BLS], First Aid, Emergency Preparedness Program [EPP]
  • Distribution of wheel chairs and medicines to individuals and health facilities in disaster hit areas.
  • Tele medicine project with Swinfin Charitable Trust.
  • Free Ambulance service for deserving patients,
  • Coordination of equipments for Ayub Teaching Hospital [ATH] Abbottabad through International Medical Equipment Collaborative; [IMEC], USA.

 Educational Programs

  • Students Scholarship Program
  • First Step School Muzaffarabad, AJK
  • Distribution of books and school bags among the students

 Women Empowerment Programs

  • Women skills development centers at Abbottabad & Muzaffarabad
  • Learning Resource Centre at Abbottabad
  • Micro credit schemes for deserving and skilled women

 We pay our gratitude to the people and organizations who have helped us in providing facilities to the deserving people affected by the 2005 Earthquake in Pakistan and AJK.
